What Colour Does YETI® Engraving Produce?

One of the most common questions about personalised YETI® engraving is whether the customer can choose the engraved colour.

Standard laser engraving does not add coloured ink to the product. Instead, the laser marks or removes part of the finished surface.

The resulting colour therefore depends on the product’s coating and material rather than being selected from a colour chart.

What Colour Is Engraving on a Coated YETI®?

On many colour-coated products, laser engraving removes the outer colour finish and reveals the stainless-steel colour underneath.

The design will generally appear:

  • Metallic silver
  • Stainless-steel coloured
  • Light grey
  • Brighter or darker depending on the lighting

The appearance can vary based on:

  • Product colour
  • Product finish
  • Lighting
  • Viewing angle
  • Artwork density
  • Product type
  • Natural surface variation

Is the Engraving White?

Engraving can appear white or very light in certain photographs, particularly when it is displayed against a dark product.

In person, it will generally have more of a metallic stainless-steel appearance than a painted white finish.

Bright reflections can make it appear lighter, while shadows and indoor lighting may make the same engraving appear darker.

Can You Choose Red, Blue, Gold or Another Colour?

Standard laser engraving does not allow a colour such as red, blue, gold or pink to be added to the design.

The customer chooses:

  • The YETI® product colour
  • The artwork
  • The design position
  • The engraving size
  • Single- or double-sided options where available

The product surface determines the final engraving colour.

Does the Same Design Look Different on Different Colours?

Yes. The surrounding colour changes how strongly the engraving stands out.

A metallic engraving on a dark product can create strong contrast. The same engraving on a pale product may appear more subtle.

The engraved surface may be similar, but your eyes perceive it differently based on the colour around it.

Which Product Colours Create Strong Contrast?

Darker colour finishes will often create greater contrast against a lighter metallic engraving.

Lighter colours can still produce attractive results, but the final design may appear softer and less bold.

When choosing the product, consider:

  • Whether you prefer strong or subtle contrast
  • How detailed the artwork is
  • Whether the design includes small text
  • Whether a photograph is being engraved
  • The recipient’s preferred colour
  • Current product availability

What Colour Is Engraving on Stainless Steel?

A stainless-steel finished product behaves differently from a colour-coated product because there is no coloured outer layer to remove.

ETCH’s engraving on stainless-steel finishes will generally appear dark grey or black.

The exact appearance can vary depending on the product surface, artwork and engraving method.

Do Photos Engrave in Colour?

No. A photo is converted into a black-and-white or tonal engraving design.

Different areas of the photograph are reproduced using contrast, patterns and varying levels of engraved detail rather than coloured ink.

The final image will have an engraved finish rather than looking like a colour print.

Does a Full-Colour Logo Stay in Colour?

No. A coloured logo will usually need to be converted into engraving-ready artwork.

Different colours may be represented using:

  • Solid engraved areas
  • Unengraved negative space
  • Clean outlines
  • Simplified shapes
  • Patterned details

Some company logos need to be adjusted so their main features remain recognisable without relying on the original colours.

Can the Online Preview Show the Exact Finish?

The online preview is a guide to the design, size and position.

Screen settings, image lighting and product photography can affect how the engraving and product colour appear online.

The physical product may look slightly different under:

  • Natural daylight
  • Indoor lighting
  • Direct sunlight
  • Camera flash
  • Different viewing angles

How to Choose the Best Colour

Consider the design before selecting the YETI® colour.

A detailed photo or fine logo may benefit from strong contrast. A simple name, monogram or bold illustration can look excellent on both light and dark colours.

The best way to understand the possible result is to view examples of completed engraving on similar product colours.
